LUnited makes services accessible to more people
Information on volunteering, clubs and community involvement is now available in eleven languages on the website LUnited. As well as German, users can now view the content in English, Turkish, Arabic, Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Romanian, French, Spanish and Italian.
New translation service breaks down language barriers and boosts participation in Ludwigshafen
With its new translation feature, LUnited is responding to the linguistic and cultural diversity of Ludwigshafen. At the end of 2023, more than 180,000 people were living in Ludwigshafen. Around 31 per cent are foreign nationals; the largest groups come from countries including Turkey, Bulgaria, Italy, Romania and Ukraine.

“Community involvement thrives when people have access to information and feel that it is relevant to them. With this multilingual website, we want to make it easier for as many residents as possible to get involved in voluntary work – regardless of which language they mainly speak,” explains Marion Lichti from LUnited.
Information to be more easily accessible in future
The new language function makes it possible to view all the website’s key content in the desired language with just a few clicks. Visitors can change the language at any time using the language selector at the bottom of the page.
This benefits both people who are looking for information on volunteering opportunities for the first time, and clubs, initiatives and charitable organisations in which non-native speakers are involved. The website LUnited brings together current events for clubs and volunteers, training opportunities, advisory services, funding opportunities and information on projects and networks in Ludwigshafen.
For newly arrived migrants or residents who are still learning German in particular, language can be a barrier to accessing information and opportunities for participation. LUnited aims to break down these barriers and help more people contribute their skills, experiences and ideas to the city’s social life.
Diversity as an opportunity for volunteering
Ludwigshafen is one of the most diverse cities in Rhineland-Palatinate. More than 60 migrant cultural associations and intercultural initiatives are already active as volunteers in the local community and play a key role in shaping the city’s social life.
