Civil society initiatives against racism
Democracy, Anti-racism, Antisemitismus
The Amadeu Antonio Foundation promotes, encourages and supports initiatives and projects that work to foster a democratic civil society and actively address the issues of right-wing extremism, racism and anti-Semitism. Applications can be made for up to 2,500 euros – and in exceptional cases, even more.
What is funded?
The foundation’s aim is to promote a civil society that resolutely opposes anti-democratic tendencies. To this end, it supports projects and initiatives that are committed to a democratic civil society, advocate for the protection of minorities and human rights, and actively combat right-wing extremism, racism and anti-Semitism.
The Foundation is particularly interested in supporting initiatives and projects that would otherwise have little chance of receiving financial support.
Applications for funding can be submitted at any time using the application form.
Your project is eligible for Amadeo Antonio funding if it:
- takes a clear stand against right-wing extremism and (right-wing) populism – and actively opposes their normalisation
- recognises, identifies and actively challenges racism and notions of inequality within an immigrant society
- is committed to combating racism against Black people, people of colour, Muslims, Sinti and Roma, people perceived as Asian, or refugees
- consistently challenges anti-Semitic narratives – whether from right-wing, left-wing, conspiracy-theory or religious contexts
- addresses and combats anti-feminist and anti-queer positions as a threat to democracy
- develops new ideas and concrete responses to local challenges and crises as a counterpoint to far-right narratives – and strengthens visions for a society based on solidarity
- advocates for a democratic culture of debate – against hate, incitement and disinformation, both online and offline
- empowers and protects those affected, and creates spaces for self-organisation and empowerment
- builds networks of solidarity – locally, between town and country, or between East and West
In short: if the project brings about change – and helps to ensure that our democracy is not only defended but also further developed.
The Foundation is particularly keen to support projects from structurally disadvantaged regions or from initiatives that would otherwise have little chance of receiving funding. Because it is where things are hardest that commitment is needed most urgently.
What matters to the Amadeu Antonio Foundation in projects:
- You want to make a difference – not just talk, but take action
- You understand the local challenges – and tackle them head-on
- Your project promotes participation and self-organisation and takes the perspective of those affected into account.
The Foundation supports projects in terms of content and can provide expertise and contacts. The Foundation is also delighted to be able to showcase your project publicly.
